About the Authors

Andrea Elliott is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has spent her career writing about race, poverty, and social justice. She is the author of the bestselling book Invisible Child: Poverty, Survival & Hope in an American City.

James Dao is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has covered some of the most important stories of our time, including the September 11th attacks, the Iraq War, and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is currently a national correspondent for The New York Times.
